10 most popular Valentine’s Day meal ideas

When it comes to cooking romantic meals for Valentine’s Day, there’s very little room for error. Everything must be exactly right, or the consequences for your love life could be disastrous. With over 40 years of supplying great-tasting food to some of the finest, Michelin-Starred restaurants and hotels, as well as the Royal Households, Donald Russell has plenty of experience in ensuring that food is consistently exceptional quality.

With a wide range from grass-fed British beef and lamb to our Chef’s premium prepared meals and sides, as well as delicious desserts, you’ll find the top-quality ingredients you need for a top-quality meal this Valentine’s Day.

To make it easier for you, we’ve put together a selection of 10 ideas for a romantic Valentine’s dinner that will win over your special someone.

1. Sirloin Steak with Peppercorn Sauce

With its delicate balance of rich flavour and tender texture, sirloin is a great choice of steak for a romantic dinner. This makes it popular with almost everyone - it’s often called the UK’s favourite steak.

Simply season, sear in a hot pan and allow them to rest while you prepare the sides. We’d recommend our signature Alpine Fries and a thick, creamy peppercorn sauce. It’s a classic combination that is sure to impress.

2. Beef Wellington

We take our finest grass-fed British beef fillet, traditionally matured for 21 days, along with our own mushroom duxelles and wrap it by hand in a crisp, flaky puff pastry. A luxury romantic meal option which is a favourite on the menu at premium restaurants across the world.

This luxurious, handmade treat is delicious with Hasselback potatoes and seasonal vegetables.

3. Potato side dishes

Whether you want indulgently creamy Dauphinoise Potatoes, crisp Goose Fat Roast Potatoes, or our classic, signature Alpine Fries, we have a delicious side to go with any meal. You can also try our NEW Triple Cooked Chips in Beef Dripping. Delightfully soft and fluffy on the inside with a crisp outside. A luxury chip that will elevate any romantic meal above the ordinary.

4. Linguine Carbonara

This classic meal from one of the most romantic countries in the world is another great choice for a special dinner.  Tender linguine, creamy sauce and juicy pancetta come together to make a richly flavoured meal. You might even end up having your own Lady & The Tramp moment.

Pour a glass of wine (we’d recommend a classic chianti – the acidity will cut through the creamy sauce and bring out all of the flavours) and add some homemade garlic bread for a romantic meal for two.

5. Desserts

Whatever your date thinks of the meal, dessert is what they’ll remember. A great dessert can save a mediocre meal and a bad one can ruin even the best dinner.

Try our rich, Belgian Chocolate Brownies with our NEW Luxury Madagascan Vanilla Ice Cream and our sweet, Salted Caramel Sauce. A luxuriously delicious way to round off your meal.

Or serve up a slice of our Chocolate Ganache Tart. Rich, smooth, double chocolate ganache in a crisp all-butter pastry, topped with dark chocolate flakes. An indulgent dessert for the chocolate lovers.

6. Vegetarian Valentine’s sides

Once you’ve chosen the star of the show, you need to nail the supporting roles. From our richly flavoured Braised Red Cabbage and distinctively shaped Parisian Carrots to smooth Buttery Mash with Traditional Nutmeg and steaming hot Traditional Gravy, you can find just what you need to make your centrepiece shine.

Our Chef has put in the hard work getting these just right, so that you know they’ll be great every time.

7. Strawberry Cheesecake

A classic dessert - for good reason. Sweet British strawberries in a deliciously flavoured sauce top two layers of cheesecake. The first is a classic baked cheesecake, the second is fresh, so you get the best of both worlds when it comes to flavour and texture. All of this on top of a crisp biscuit base. In individual servings, they come pre-wrapped so all you have to do is peel it off and you’ll have an exquisitely presented dessert that tastes as good as it looks.

Our Chef likes to let them only defrost for some of the time and enjoy them semi-fredo – it just means half-frozen, but it will make you sound like an expert Chef de Patisserie

8. Sea Bass

Sweet, buttery fish that’s packed full of flavour for a delicious, romantic meal. With such a tasty fish, you don’t need to do much to cook it like a pro. Pan fry with a little butter and lemon juice, being careful not to overcook.

For an extra layer of flavour, try it with our Garlic & Herb Butter. Sea Bass is robust enough to hold its own with these tangy, punchy herbs and spices.

9. Cheesecake Selection

Our smooth, tasty double cheesecakes in three different flavours: Blackcurrant, Lemon Meringue, and our much-requested White Chocolate & Ginger. Indulgently creamy with deliciously sweet, tangy toppings. A lovely way for you and your date to finish off a romantic Valentine’s dinner.

10. Flavoured butters

A Chef’s secret weapon for flavour – hand-churned Somerset butter with a unique mix of herbs and spices. Slice thinly and put some Béarnaise Butter on top of a steak while it rests for a tangy twist or add some Chimichurri Butter to your mashed potatoes, pasta or steamed vegetables for a delicious side that packs a punch to make your Valentine’s meal even more special.

These are just a few of our favourite ideas for a romantic meal for two. Let us know what you’re planning - we’d love to help, whether you need inspiration or some top tips from our Chef.
