Affectionately know as Queenies, these Scottish scallops are uniquely presented on half shells and make the ideal starter, simply grill for a matter of minutes and serve with garlic butter.

Preheat grill to high temperature. Rinse under cold water and gently slide a knife under the scallop meat to remove the scallops from their shells. Pat both shell and scallop with kitchen paper. Drizzle a little oil into the shells and dot with garlic butter over the scallops and cook under the grill for 2-3 minutes. These scallops can also be cooked in oven at 250°C/445°F/Gas8 for 3-4 minutes.

Ah, a rare disappointment! "Queen" scallops is a gross exaggeration: even "Princess" would be an over-optimistic description. Where I come from (Troon, on the Firth of Clyde), no self-respecting skipper would land such immature specimens, and the Fish Market probably wouldn't touch them. The shells are... Read More.
